On the Flip Side

On the flip side…

~  I can handle the things that irritated me today at work and it makes me feel proud of myself to be able to handle interpersonal challenges like I do.  I *like* to be gracious.  It makes me feel good about myself.  While I don’t like being irritated, it does remind me that I am a fine, upstanding woman.

~  The lady from who I ordered my milkshake didn’t look (as much as one can tell from visual clues) like she had a lot to be happy about.  Or maybe she is just introverted and doesn’t feel comfortable talking to new people.  Regardless of why she was wearing what seemed to me to be Grumpy Pants, I’m know there are things going on in her life that are very, very good reasons for her feeling the way she does.  I need not judge.

~  I can come up with something to look forward to.  It can be really awesome and cost-effective too.

~  I am going to work that Summer Program over like a baus.  (< slang for “boss: noun — a person who is a leader, someone who runs sh*t in his/her hood or city“)

~  I am getting my work done

My Favorite Poem By Oriah (via Jaclyn Rae’s Blog)

My Favorite Poem By Oriah "The Invitation" It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have b … Read More

Lost (via Jaclyn Rae’s Blog)

Lost Have you ever lost yourself in the process of loving someone else? One day you go to sleep as a complete person, and the next you wake up with a fragmented sense of who you are without your other half. You love someone so much that you forget that you are special too. With or without them. I know how my relationships usually turn out. Meet someone. Become great friends. Like each other a lot. Spend less time with other friends. Spend less time in … Read More

She says: Who’s more vulnerable? (via Takeout Therapy)

Just when I'd finally decided that there was such a thing as sexual compatibility (and that I didn't have it with my husband), two men convinced me to change my mind. One was, of course, my husband. The other was David Schnarch, Or more accurately, Dr Schnarch's article on how true sexual intimacy is a learned skill. He wrote about how many couples almost get divorced before they find the courage to really look at each other. And really reveal th … Read More

Is the Happy Marriage the ‘Me’ Marriage? (via Marriage Gems)

Is the Happy Marriage the ‘Me’ Marriage? New research suggests a happy marriage is more about focusing on “me” than “we.” I want to share the findings and see if you agree. The gist of the research is that while many couples stay together out of obligation or commitment, they may not find their marriages satisfying and enjoyable. To make the relationship meaningful, we have to grow and expand ourselves as a result of what we learn from our partner. Arthur Aron, professor and director of … Read More
