Guidelines for Management: If You Wonder if You Need to Apologize, You Do
IF YOU FIND YOURSELF WONDERING IF YOU NEED TO APOLOGIZE, YOU DO.
And sometimes when I didn’t wonder if I needed to apologize, I do.
Just because I’m responsible for someone else, doesn’t mean I have the right to mistreat them.
Sometimes employees engage in behavior I need address and get corrected. As long as I do that fairly and respectfully, I do not need to apologize.
But, if I mess up (i.e. hurt someone feelings unnecessarily, speak in a demeaning tone of voice, etc.), I need to apologize.
