Dr. Seuss on Jesus

Dr. Seuss in The Grinch sort of summaries my feelings about “the church” and Jesus.

On “the church”:

Cindy Lou Who: Everybody seems too kerbabbled. Isn’t this just a little superfluous?

Narrator: [I] puzzled and puzzled till [my] puzzler was sore. Then [I] thought of something [I] hadn’t before. Maybe Christmas Jesus, [I] thought… doesn’t come from a store church. Maybe [Jesus], perhaps… means a little bit more!

(I inserted “Jesus” in place of “Christmas”)

Where are you, Jesus?
Why can’t I find you?
Why have you gone away?
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me?
Why can’t I hear music play?

My world is changing
I’m rearranging
Does that mean Jesus changes too?…

Where are you, Jesus?
Do you remember
The one you used to know?
I’m not the same one
See what the time’s done
Is that why you have let me go?…

Jesus is here
Jesus is here
If you care…

If there is love in your heart and your mind
It will feel like Jesus all the time…

I feel you, Jesus
I know I’ve found you
You never fade away…
The joy of Jesus
Stays here inside us
Fills each and every heart with love.
